"In this article I will show you how to run a Spring Batch job in the SpringSource Application Platform. I ran an early version of this up as a little demo for JavaOne, and then again at the London Spring User Group, and thought it might be a good thing to share. The sample code is here."

As Rob mentioned in his post last week, Introducing the SpringSource Application Platform, the Platform supports applications packaged in the following forms:

  1. Raw OSGi Bundles
  2. Java EE WAR
  3. Web Modules
  4. Platform Archive (PAR)

...

For Web Application Archives (WAR), the SpringSource Application Platform provides support for the following three formats.

"At the heart of the Platform is the Dynamic Module Kernel (DMK). The DMK is an OSGi-based kernel that takes full advantage of the modularity and versioning of the OSGi platform. The DMK builds on Equinox and extends its capabilities for provisioning and library management, as well as providing core function for the Platform."

Lately, there have been quite a few publications ragarding the future of Enterprise Java Development. On one hand there is the approach held by JBoss.inc, an application server based model, and on the other hand, there is the Spring model, which is IoC framework based. In this session, Yanai Franchi will review the main arguments on each of the sides in order to and better undestand the merits and consequences. Slieds attached below.
