Portable Ubuntu for Windows is a Ubuntu system running as a Windows application.

This system is built with the Colinux Kernel, Xming X server and Pulseaudio server for Windows.

Portable Ubuntu for Windows is a useful tool when you need to move yourself to other machine that have Windows as operating system.

For testing or simulation purposes, I suggest using either VirtaulBox or VMware. Some utilities we needed to run on Linux just didn't work on the cooperative Linux distro.
The risk for the native OS (i.e Windows), is much lower when using a virtual machine since if something crashes then the host VM crashes and not the native OS, while when using something like colinux, it runs natively on windows.

I strongly suggest using a VM.
