Hi All!

The next .NET group meeting (May 1st) will host an Arduino presentation, including theory, practice, and some pretty nifty hardware/software projects. This is an opportunity for anyone who haven't been to the previous session to get a glimpse and see what its all about! Meeting in Tikal Offices, 10:00 (earlier if you are a member of the .NET group)

During the session we'll be

* Examining some robots

* Meeting exotic musical instruments

* Flying over the Gobi desert with just a Wii controller

and more...

See here and here for more information

Hope to see everyone there!

 In the last conference of the Israeli Internet Association, there was a day-long Django workshop by one of its founders - Jacob Kaplan-Moss. It was intended for people new to Python & Django & I highly recommend it for anyone wishing to start learning Django.

Here's the full video of the workshop (slides are also available under each video).

Enjoy.

I saw an ad for a famous US consulting & training company, & went in to check their courses schedule. I was sure it will be mainly Java & J2EE courses & maybe some .Net & Flex.

This is what I found:

Some Python & Django, a little Ruby, but almost all Mobile - iPhone, iPad & Android.

We'd better get ready for this trend, before it will be too late..

Introduction

Confucius Task Manager or simple Conficius. The idea is standing behind was to create an interactive, annoying, really annoying tool which is able to manage your life daily TODO list, makes sure you are making  progress in your current task, reminds you about your uncompleted work, and again makes sure and reminds you and, finally, rates you progress at end of the day.

How it works

The next 2 PyWeb-IL meetups will be in the form of a Django-Dash-like contest. Django-Dash is an event in which teams compete in developing useful applications, in a limited time. This will allow people to code together, in a fun & motivating framework. Actually, the planned event will not be a Dash (more like a Stroll), because the teams will be able to continue working on it for a whole month.

 The author of Mongrel, Zed Shaw, just released a new web-server - Mongrel2 - which is completely programming-language-agnostic & supports many types of communication protocols besides HTTP (Flash Sockets, WebSockets &c). The nice thing is the simple idea behind it: when receiving a request, it parses it, decides which back-end should handle it & then invokes the back-end via async messaging - using 0MQ - or via sync call - using TCP-IP. This means it can work with back-ends written in any programming-language, & in both synchronous & asynchronous protocols.

The 1st version was released this month. Read here an early announce about it:

Tikal's Python group is delighted to host this month meetup of PyWeb-IL - one of the most active developers communities in Israel, with over 150 registered members, meeting regularly every month. The meetup will take place in Tikal's offices on Aug-30.

The agenda contains lectures on client-side techniques & best-practices (CSS, JavaScript & HTML5), Django best practices (class-based views) & Django-based open-source projects (Ekkli). After the meetup, a Django tutorial session will be offered to anyone interested.

You're all welcome!

DjangoCon.eu 2010 is almost over (the conference is split to 3 days of lectures & 2 days of sprints) & the videos/slides are already available, & highly recommended!

* Videos

* Presentation slides

BTW, the conference this year was co-organized by Idan Gazit (who gave a talk in the TCE on Django). Feedback on it is really good, so lot's of kudos to Idan!!
